Amsterdam Fashion Academy is a hub of learning and innovation pulsing at the heart of the fashion community. A place where companies, academia and students converge to share their ideas and inspiration and collaborate successfully to take fashion into the future.

There is only one way students can really find out what life is like in the fashion industry and that’s to work in it: hands on. This why the academy is strongly linked with the industry. Through internships and collaborations students get the chance to gain first hand work experience which helps them find the path they want to follow and gives them an array of career connections within a broader fashion network.  The industry gets enthusiastic new staff eager to learn and express themselves and the students encounter all manner of new things to fuel their inspiration and develop their talent. Win-Win!

Academic Partnerships

The best of both worlds and more besides. An international network of educational establishments not only opens the doors to student and staff exchanges, but is also key in creating a true global cross-pollination of ideas, innovations, approaches and culture. Take the best ideas from the Netherlands, UK, Germany, Italy and Australia and share them. Suddenly the possibilities are endless. A melting pot of culture and ideas merging and diverging to create new ones in turn leading to even more. This is just one of the many benefits of our international academic partnerships.

Internships

There is no way you can know what something is like until you have tried it. Students often have unfounded preconceptions of what working in the fashion industry is actually like and have extremely diverse notions of what employers expect of them. This is why Amsterdam Fashion Academy has given priority to offering vocationally focused opportunities within a course, such as internships. Students can experience and learn what the work involves and take in all that goes on around them. Having this kind of opportunity is crucial in helping them make informed choices about their future career.

Amsterdam Fashion Academy has worked hard to build up good relations within the industry and can now offer a breath-taking array of internships with renowned and innovative designers and fashion houses. Viktor & Rolf, Claes Iversen, Tommy Hilfiger, Zoe Karssen, Top Buyer UK, Karl Lagerfeld, to name but a few….

Preparing for life after graduation: live projects.

There is a world of difference between starting out on a project that you have made up yourself, will be assessed on at school and then possibly disappears into a dark wardrobe never to be seen again and a ‘live project’ commissioned by a business looking for fashionable new uniforms for its staff or a new-look line of casual clothing. This is why we actively seek out live projects for our students so they can gain real experience, feel the real buzz and adrenalin followed by the satisfaction and recognition of their work.

One good example is a styling assignment, and if you want to see the results just go to the ANDAZ hotel Amsterdam where staff are wearing it and the rooms reflecting it.
