During this hands-on, mostly practical course you will explore the fundamental elements of fashion sketching and illustration with a professional fashion illustrator and lecturer, while developing a personal style and approach.

This course is designed to introduce the building blocks of what makes a skilled and affluent fashion illustrator.
Most contact days will consist in part of workshops which explain and perform the basics of these techniques and skills, while also leaving plenty of room for individual guidance and development.
Throughout the course you will build a portfolio of illustrations ranging from specific exercises in certain techniques and media, to a series of fully realized fashion illustrations and design drawings showing personal style and flair.
You will be introduced to many (traditional) techniques and media, meanwhile being guided and encouraged to find, develop and polish your own style and approach to fashion sketching and illustration.
You will learn not just how to use illustration to inform, but to captivate an audience or customer by creating dynamic and original images.
Indicative Content
- introduction to fashion illustration history.
- workshops and exercises in illustrating:
• human anatomy (life drawing with model);
• fashion figure proportions and poses (male and female);
• fabrics and materials;
• drape, volume and silhouette;
• products and clothing details;
• styling, accessories and make-up.
- explore a variety of traditional media and techniques:
• pencils and pastels;
• paints and gouache;
• inks and watercolors;
• collage;
• mixed media.
- development of an illustration portfolio that shows a personal style and approach
