about Amsterdam Fashion Academy

The Amsterdam Fashion Academy is a unique, highly specialised academy. The combination of stylish sophistication with unconventional individualism makes the Amsterdam Fashion Academy a cut above the rest. Live industry projects and internships with leading fashion brands give our international students invaluable first-hand experience of how the industry really works.
Our status as a small scale, intimate and supportive fashion academy is part of our core identity and informs our approach to teaching. We are proud of being a space for students who do not feel at home in traditional ‘mass’ educational establishments. With regard to class sizes, less really is more: fewer students per class means our tutors are able to give every student the personal attention they need to flourish and grow whilst maintaining their individuality.

Less is more

Our friendly and intimate fashion academy in central Amsterdam has a limited number of places available, making each one truly precious. This results in our students being highly motivated and eager to unleash and develop their creative spirit. Our supportive and knowledgeable teaching staff flourish in the informal yet professional atmosphere and are given the time and space needed to nurture the student’s individual talent and creativity. We have found that our bespoke and inclusive approach to teaching results in a happy, productive environment, in which students from all walks of life feel empowered to grow both personally and professionally.

Unleash your potential

Our discerning students want to be treated as individuals and not just as ‘this year’s intake’. We want to get to know them personally, grow with them and encourage them to unleash their creative potential while equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need for a successful future in fashion. From running their own fashion label to heading up a marketing department, Amsterdam Fashion Academy offers students the specific skill sets needed to achieve their goals. Our graduates have a multitude of career pathways open to them post-study: from textile/print designer, pattern maker, product developer or tailor to marketer, branding expert, trend forecaster or fashion buyer, to name a few.

Fashion hub

We have consciously chosen to be a hub of small-scale, personal, student-centred learning in a supportive, inclusive environment. This ensures that we can foster the individual needs and talents of each student and means that they get the support and assistance they require to develop their talents to the fullest. At Amsterdam Fashion Academy, we aspire to be a cultural and social hub where everyone knows, helps and inspires one another. Graduates leave Amsterdam Fashion Academy with an Honours degree widely regarded as being of the highest academic standard and a sense of their individualism and place in this ever-changing world.

Our teaching approach takes in traditional fashion techniques like weaving, knitting and draping alongside cutting-edge fashion technologies and methods, providing a full spectrum of fashion-related expertise. We love to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in our students and feel proud to see our graduates bring their individuality to the world of fashion. Issues like sustainability and diversity are also extremely important to us at Amsterdam Fashion Academy: part of our role as educators is to help the next generation of talent bring about positive change in the fashion industry and beyond.
